Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes what information is collected, used, and shared by The Burg, LLC when an individual uses the mobile application “The Burg” on Android or iOS mobile devices.

When this policy mentions “we” or “us” or “The Burg” it refers to the controller of your information under this policy. Your information is controlled by The Burg, LLC.

1. COLLECTION OF INFORMATION

We may collect the following kinds of information from users:

Basic Demographic Info: User’s will directly or indirectly provide the following to The Burg:

  1. Contact information, such as full name, email address, birthday, phone number, profile photo, address, and similar information

  2. Demographic information;

  3. Username and password;

  4. Facebook or Google login;

  5. Location information; We use Google Maps API to gather information about your location. Google uses various technologies to determine your location, including IP address, GPS and other sensors that may, for example, provide Google with information on nearby devices, wi-fi access points and cell towers (see Google Maps privacy policy to learn more).

  6. Voter Status (see section 3)

  7. All content that you create, share or post in audio, video, text, images, and other media;

  8. Information other people provide about you including when they send a message to you or upload information about you;

  9. User communications, feedback, suggestions, etc sent to us;

  10. Information you provide us when you or your organization contact or engage us for support regarding the The Burg, LLC;

  11. Device Information data, tells us what type and model the mobile device and operating system version, crash data, and what settings are enabled;and

  12. Log Data, generally includes the date and time you used the app, the app version, and how you used The Burg.

We also collect information from public sources, such as census data, city information, and mapping data to better understand our users and find the best way to serve them.


2. ANDROID PERMISSIONS

1. CAMERA:

Used for permissions that are associated with accessing camera or capturing images/video from the device. This permission allows this application to capture the user’s pictures in order to share with users on the app and in order to post a profile picture when logging on.

2. CONTACTS:

Used for permissions that are associated with user’s contact list. Allows for user to share app with their contact list.

3. NOTIFICATIONS:

Used for permissions that allow for push notifications to pop up on mobile devices even when The Burg is not open. This would include notifications for messages, comments, upvotes, and other user interactions.


3. VOTER STATUS


In accordance with Title 2,Division 7, Article 1, Section 19003 of the California Code of Regulations, and Elections Code Section 2194 and Government Code Section 6254.4 The Burg cross references voter registration information with user information to determine if a user is a verified voter and where they are a verified voter. We have received the official California State Voter State file form the CA Secretary of State. We will not use this information to sell, lease, loan or deliver possession of the registration information, or a copy thereof, or any portion thereof, in any form or format, to any person, organization or agency. We are very careful to keep voter information secure and private.  


4. USE OF INFORMATION

The Burg, LLC will use information we collect to provide, develop, and improve the functioning of the application. Examples of such use include:

  1. Communicate with users and administrators regarding their use of The Burg;

  2. Enhance the security and safety for users;

  3. Personalize feed and user experience;

  4. Develop new tools, products, or services; and

  5. Conduct data analytics, including research and new feature testing

  6. We will occasionally display public user posts on social media for our own marketing

  7. If you register or login via Facebook, we may give you the option to invite your Facebook friends to The Burg

We may also use the information we collect in order to operate, maintain, and improve the systems and infrastructure that provide the The Burg. We Do Not sell advertising or build user data profiles on The Burg.

Freedom of Information Act: Posts and comments by government agency accounts, and your replies to those posts or comments, may be subject to laws mandating public access to government records (such as the Freedom of Information Act/FOIA or state "sunshine" laws).

5. PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF 16

The Burg and its content are not directed at children under the age of 16. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 16, we will delete that user and information as quickly as possible.


6. LINKS TO THIRD PARTY WEBSITES


Users  may come across links and other references to sites that are not part of The Burg. As is the nature of the platform, users can share links and content from other websites. Please remember that we don't have any control over these third parties sites, and they are not governed by this Privacy Policy.


7. SAFETY AND SECURITY

We use the information we have to help verify accounts and activity, and to promote safety and security. We allow users to report posts and users for behavior that violates terms and conditions. We work hard to protect our user’s information and take precautions to detect and delete abusive content.

If your information is lost or stolen, you should contact The Burg, LLC promptly to allow The Burg to cancel your information and update its records with a new password, if necessary.

[If applicable:] If you participate in a comment threat or post you should be aware that your information will be shared on a broad basis. Opinions expressed in such forums should not be considered to reflect  the opinions of The Burg, LLC.

8. ACCOUNT CLOSURE

If you would like to stop using The Burg you may log out or uninstall the application from your mobile device. Similarly, The Burg has the right to delete any user content or account that we see as unfit for the application.

9. CHANGES TO THE PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time.

10. DISCLOSURE

The Burg, LLC may have business processes and technical systems that cross borders. Some countries may provide less protection for transferred user information. The Burg, LLC may decide to sell, buy, merge or otherwise reorganize and user information may be disclosed to prospective or actual buyers or sellers. The Burg, LLC engages and employees other companies and individuals to perform business functions on its behalf.  These persons may be permitted to access user information to perform their function. User information may be subject to disclosure pursuant to government subpoenas, warrants or orders.
